Whether you are new to the international trading environment or are seeking to undertake a more operational role in this field, this course is for you. While our more advanced courses will provide you with an in-depth knowledge of the various topics, this introductory course is designed to help you gain a general understanding and basic knowledge of the key concepts, relevant processes and terminology. Topics include:
Basic Concepts of Customs
You will understand a number of important concepts that are central to the customs work that international traders undertake. This includes an introduction to the European Union (EU); the various roles that EU customs authorities are required to perform, including revenue collection and other responsibilities; and a brief introduction to customs-related laws and regulation.
Customs Processes and Procedures
You will gain a general understanding and basic knowledge of the various customs processes and procedures that international traders are required to comply with. These include rules relating to the way in which goods may be imported, exported, stored, processed and released for sale within the EU.
Calculating Import Duty
You will gain a basic understanding of how and why customs duty is collected when goods are imported into the EU. This includes a basic knowledge of the key elements that are necessary to determine the amount of duty to be paid, including the way in which customs classifies goods, the value of the goods for customs purposes and how the origin of the goods is determined.
Finally, you will gain an insight into other issues that international traders are required to consider when dealing with customs matters. These include the payment of Value Added Tax (VAT) and the rules relating to goods that are prohibited from being imported into or exported from the EU, or goods for which certain restrictions apply when they are imported or exported. You will also gain an understanding of the various risks that must be managed and the importance of ensuring that customs requirements are complied with at all times.
The course is delivered online and will take you between 15 and 20 hours to complete, depending on your prior knowledge. The total cost for this course is EUR 180.
