Steve Cock, Director of Customs Consultancy at KGH Customs Services contributed to an item on Sky News which made the point that time is running out for companies to prepare for Brexit.
KGH Customs Services is working with a large number of organisations to ensure that they are Brexit ready. As a minimum, we would urge all companies that trade with the EU to undertake three steps:
- Obtain an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number.
- Once their EORI is recognised on the EU’s database, which can take up to 10 days, importers should obtain a Transitional Simplified Procedures (TSP) approval.
- Exporters should ensure that they have identified a broker that will raise export declarations on their behalf and importers should ensure the same for their TSP summary declarations.
There is still time for companies to plan for Brexit and avoid the very real difficulties on the horizon, not least the mistake of agreeing to declare goods on import from the continent when someone else owns them.
